HanDBase Database Manager App Reviews

Please support this app!!!

This is hands down the best database management app available on iOS. The developer has been doing this since Palm Pilots. The custom form extension is what makes this app incredible and you should get if you are looking to create custom data collection forms. Ive tried pretty much all of them and this is the best and the cheapest for the available features.

Effective Powerful DB on my iTouch

Update: App works again! Great app! Update: great app, but CRASHES on start up and never opens. what a hassle! Comfortable learning curve.. Already helping me a lot in my job in terms of organization..

Flexible and Powerful

Have used this product since the Palm days. Love the flexibility but more importantly powerful enough to organize my business and professional life.

Destroys Databases

Warning! After the last upgrade I suddenly had a database destroyed without warning. It was almost a two year old DB with almost 600 records. The DB had no records and the fields were mostly non existent. I had to create another and start over. Tonight it happened to another DB and it was no longer usable - it had only about 60 records. This never happened in all the years Ive used Handbase back to the Palm days and has only happened since the last upgrade. I currently am using about 15 dbs a day and I am very afraid. I am on a search for a new one but have yet to find one that handles calculated fields as easily as Handbase but Ill keep searching.

Worth every penny!!!

Use one of the thousands of database templates in the gallery, modify them if needed or make your own from scratch. You will soon wonder how you lived without this app. The ability to make home screen icons that launch your individual databases is a great added bonus. Now has reliable encryption to protect your data.

Good afford

Who could use this App it lacks abilities isnt intuitive and isnt friendly. I give it five stars for all of the above.

Great Database

I wanted to wait until I had a chance to test this database after the latest update before rating. Ive used it for years and its still absolutely the best. Works flawlessly. Im disappointed that the developer cant financially justify supporting the app regularly because Ive used many databases and this is definitely the most versatile and flexible Ive found. I use it for everything.

Versatile

Takes place of 5 programs

Very Flexible

Currently using this application for an array of tasks, customized perfectly.

Works Great!

Got this to make forms and track customer/applicant calls on the go. Very happy with it.

Handy App

I have quite a bit of experience with FileMaker and some experience with Access and am finding that HanDBase is the perfect program for quickly creating relatively simple databases for use in my business.

Good value

Ive always gotten good results from HanDBase and this new version is prettier, faster, better looking, cute, easy on the eyes. ;-) Seriously, its a great layout and very efficent to use. Im happy I bought this program (many years ago, and liking it even better. Great developers!).

Pleasant Discovery

I used this app on a Palm device several years ago, and loved it. I discovered about six months ago that it was now available as an Iphone app. It was great before, and even better now. Databases are so easy to set up. I have a couple of dozen which I use regularly. It synchs easily via a conduit that I purchased with my Windows version. And the technical support is outstanding. I jighly recommend this app.

Close to perfect

Use it every day, robust and adaptable. Has features only a geek can appreciate but accessible to the rest of us. One nifty feature is including a photo in a record. However, Ive yet to find how to zoom in to see/read details in the photo with in the app. Another is including location in a record, handy, but sometimes inaccurate. Likely a hardware issue.

Great App, use it everyday

I have been a long time user of Handbase, since 2001. This app is great. I bought both the iPhone and iPad versions. I carry several databases that I use everyday on the job. Whenever I have a need to track something I find it really easy to quickly create a database and start using it right away. Setting up a database no matter what program you use takes a little learning, but I have found Handbase to be the easiest to use and setup. Thanks for a great product.

Could not live without it!

My partners and I have been using Handbase since 2004, selected due to its cross platform capability. It has grown up with us and we literally could not run our practice without it. We send data daily in a hippa compliant manor, encrypt databases, password protect our work, and have large databases available to mine as data. The app is a bargain. Was much more for windows mobile and I was happy to pay it.

Outstanding tech support

The software speaks for itself, but for me it is the excellent tech support that I have received on more than one occasion. Most recently when one of my databases became corrupted, Brian exchanged numerous emails with me until he was able to resolve the problem and restore my data. He was patient and prompt in his service for which I am extremely grateful.

Archaic

The app itself is good with all the field options one could need. BUT, until the developer figures out how to store the data in the cloud so it can be shared between iPhone and iPad seamlessly, its a mediocre app. I asked him about this and he said most of the apps users are in the medical field and so HIPAA regs are an issue. Seems there should be a workaround to this though. Too bad such a good app falls down on this issue so badly

Needs Updating

You know...look around the App Store. Some apps are available as + meaning one purchase works on all your modern iDevices. Then their are apps (and developers) who create unique versions for each screen size, charging for each, and even adding in-app purchases for customization. OK, Im not selling software to make a living, and Im no Bill Gates but HanDBase on iDevices has fallen into the latter definition app types. Heres my advice...if you have an iPhone or iPod touch, buy it here, including the forms creator in-app purchase if you need that functionality. Next, get a Retina-enabled iPad and use your files in 2X mode. Works just fine and renders fine. In fact, the minimalist if layout of the smaller iDevice screen on the iPad actually makes it a program youll use rather than fiddle with, and get lost in, screen art. Also, since this developer, around since the dawn of Palm Pilot hasnt at this point integrated iCloud, DropBox, or any other cloud-based personal syncing, your only options are (1) forget my earlier advice and get another modern database app, (2) email your databases back and forth between your devices, loading each time on the receiving device, after deleting the same file older but still present on the receiving device, or (3) live cabled to iTunes and save/copy daily your updates on the App tab. So my two stars would be one if I didnt have such a long experience with this app ... I can work somewhat efficiently with these short-comings. But be known...Im always looking for the next solution (not FileMaker/Bento commercial bloatware either!). P.S. Are you ever gonna change the stinkin flipping page effect when navigating through records. Weve all graduated from PowerPoint transitions and animation. We want speed, not glitzy graphical elements.

Good but...

Needs a global, or top level, search option. It is a pain to go through each database since iOS search cannot access the databases. Otherwise, Ive been using HanDbase since Palm Pilot days and its been great.
